On October 31st, 2024, Thai Minister of Culture Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol announced that Thailand has ranked 8th in the U.S. News & World Report’s “2024 Best Countries for Heritage,” among the top 10 nations globally out of 89 countries.
This ranking celebrates Thailand’s accessible culture, rich history, renowned cuisine, numerous cultural sites, and diverse geographical attractions, key criteria for consideration.
Sudawan expressed pride in Thailand’s global cultural heritage status, citing the country’s blend of tradition and modernity as well as its globally admired cuisine and historical landmarks, from pristine beaches to iconic temples.
Furthermore, she emphasized that this recognition will support Thailand’s tourism image and increase international interest in experiencing Thai culture firsthand.
Highlighting the government’s “Soft Power” initiative, Sudawan aims to elevate national festivals to international levels, such as the Thailand Winter Festival under the theme “7 Wonders of Thailand,” to further Thailand’s global cultural influence.
Sudawan also aims to position Thailand among the top 25 countries globally in cultural soft power influence by 2025, driving the cultural economy as a pillar of national competitiveness and income.
