On October 31st, 2024, Bang Sue police responded to a call from their command center to intercept a blue taxi allegedly stolen by a South Korean suspect from a gas station on Kamphaeng Phet 2 Road in Chatuchak District.
The taxi driver, publicly identified only as Mr. Suthep, 38, pursued the stolen vehicle on a motorcycle taxi and located it about 1 kilometer from the scene, near the entrance to Suan Rot Fai Park (railway park). The suspect crashed into a fence while attempting to flee further.
Upon arrival, officers apprehended the suspect, identified as Mr. Kim Wang Gil, 52, a South Korean national reportedly showing signs of intoxication, as indicated by the victim, Suthep.
According to Suthep, he had left his car engine running while he went into a convenience store at the gas station. When he returned, he saw the suspect driving off in his taxi, prompting him to pursue on a motorcycle taxi until the suspect crashed.
During questioning, Kim gave incoherent responses. Passport records show he entered Thailand on October 30th and was scheduled to depart in January 2025. He is now in custody awaiting further investigation.
