Thailand Mourns Four Nationals Killed in Deadly Rocket Attack on Israel-Lebanon Border

National —

On November 1st, 2024, Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Nikorndej Balankura announced the tragic deaths of four Thai nationals and the serious injury of another following a rocket attack on the Israel-Lebanon border, amidst an intensifying regional conflict.

The attack occurred in Metula, a northern Israeli town close to the border, where rockets fired from Lebanon struck, causing significant damage and casualties. The Embassy in Tel Aviv reported that the victims had entered the area under short-term permission from the Israeli military, who allowed entry for brief labor tasks.

The deceased were identified as Mr. Akkaphon Wannasai, Mr. Prayad Pilasram, Mr. Thana Tichantuk, and Mr. Kaweesak Papanang, while Mr. Chatchai Silprasert was critically injured and is undergoing surgery in Haifa. Tragically, their Israeli employer was also killed in the strike.

In response, the Ministry has worked closely with Israeli authorities, calling for stringent measures to prevent further risks to Thai nationals by restricting access to military zones. The bodies of the deceased will undergo formal autopsy and documentation before being repatriated to Thailand.

The Ministry expressed deep condolences and emphasized Thailand’s call for de-escalation amid rising Middle East tensions, especially in Gaza and Lebanon.

Thailand reiterated its stance for immediate ceasefire negotiations, the release of all hostages—including Thai nationals, and a peaceful two-state solution for Israel and Palestine, reaffirming its commitment to the United Nations peacekeeping and humanitarian missions.
