The following is our weekly feature in which we highlight the top local stories in our area of Phuket from the past week. The number of stories differs from week to week.

These are chosen and curated by our editorial team and are designed for our readers to get a quick “catch-up” of important stories they may have missed. We publish many stories daily and it is easy to lose track of important events or changes in our area. We do national recaps in a separate article, this is only the top local stories in Phuket.

They are in no particular order of importance but roughly in order of publishing. These are from Monday, November 11th to Sunday November 17th, 2024.

1. Four foreign suspects have been arrested after allegedly robbing a Ukrainian man in Kamala of 250,000 USD in crypto currency.

Four foreign suspects were arrested at a hotel in Phang Nga. They were taken back to the Kamala Police Station. As of press time, the suspects continue to deny the accusations.

2. Nearly 20 dugongs were recently spotted swimming into Pa Khlok Bay in Phuket to feed on seagrass and experimental food plots.

Still, concerns have been raised that the increasing number of feeding dugongs may soon deplete the seagrass, and local fishermen have set nets in the area, which could pose a danger to the dugongs.

3. Three Ugandans and one Tanzanian national were arrested on the Bangla Road in Patong.

They were identified by police only as Ms. Kembabazi, 34, Ms. Nancige, 27, and Ms. Ajambo, 22. All of them are Ugandan nationals. The other is Ms. Sangana, 29, a Tanzanian national.

4. A headless dugong was found near a pier in Paklok.

A plastic bag was found in the stomach of a headless dugong with a cut wound, appearing to have been caused by a sharp weapon.

5. A man was arrested at a hospital after slashing a police officer at the Tha Chatchai Police Station in Mai Khao.
