Bangkok —
On November 20th, 2024, Bangkok police arrested a foreign man suspected of following and assaulting a woman in the elevator of a luxury condominium in the Rama 9 area. The arrest took place at a condo in Suan Luang District, following days of investigation by Makkasan police.
The incident occurred around 4:00 AM on November 16th, a 25-year-old woman (whose name was withheld by the police) reported that a foreign man followed her car into the condo’s parking area and entered the elevator with her. She alleged that the man groped her before fleeing the scene.
Investigators reviewed CCTV footage, identifying the suspect only as a 36-year-old Egyptian national, Mr. Sameh, residing in a nearby condo on Ramkhamhaeng Soi 4. Police observed the suspect’s residence and arrested him.
Communication barriers required an interpreter during questioning, where the suspect reportedly admitted to being the man seen on CCTV and confessed to the crime.
Initially, Sameh was taken into custody and is now facing charges under Thai law. Police emphasized their commitment to addressing crimes that endanger public safety, especially against women.
