Thaksin Shares Insights at Forbes Global CEO Event

National —

On November 21st, 2024, at the 22nd Forbes Global CEO Conference, former Thai PM Thaksin Shinawatra shared insights into his political journey and the legal battles that continue to define his life.

Engaging in a candid conversation with Forbes Media Chairman Steve Forbes, Thaksin opened up about the highs and lows of his career, emphasizing his experience of seeing both “heaven and hell” through his entrepreneurial and political pursuits.

Previously, Thai PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra also joined a one-on-one session with Moira Forbes, Vice Chair of Forbes Media, at the 22nd Forbes Global CEO Conference.
Thaksin recalled how his entry into politics, after achieving success in business, was motivated by a desire to help those still suffering in poverty in Thailand.

Despite his early success, Thaksin acknowledged that his time in politics ultimately brought him many challenges, including legal troubles and eventual exile. He expressed a belief that even as he faced legal consequences and controversies, he had always aimed to help both his family and his country.

At the chat, the focus was on a critical decision by Thailand’s Constitutional Court, which was to rule on a case involving Thaksin’s legal disputes on November 22nd. Speaking calmly about the upcoming verdict, he expressed his resolve not to dwell on the past.

As Thaksin waited for the verdict (In which the case was dropped entirely as we reported here), he emphasized that at 75, work remains central to his life, noting his dedication to business despite the many years he spent away from his homeland.

He added that, unlike some who seek rest and relaxation in exotic locations, he found fulfillment through hard work—working up to 14 hours a day even in his later years. This perspective was shaped by years of facing adversity, both in politics and in business.
