Previously, TPN covered an article about RFA media reporting heightened tensions along the Thai-Myanmar border near Doi Nong Luang and Doi Hua Ma, opposite Pai District, Mae Hong Son.
Key points included:
- The Third Army Region oversees 1,926 kilometers of border, focusing on protecting sovereignty, public safety, and addressing key issues such as drug trafficking and illegal immigration.
- Collaboration through mechanisms like the Township Border Committee (TBC), Regional Border Committee (RBC), and High-Level Committee (HLC) ensures issues are resolved diplomatically, starting with dialogue.
- Some Thai-Myanmar border areas, including parts of Chiang Rai to Ranong, remain undemarcated. Efforts to survey and finalize boundaries are in progress through state-level negotiations.
The Third Army Region emphasized its readiness to respond to any threats while maintaining peace. In response to questions about areas near the Wa-controlled region, the spokesperson confirmed the situation remains stable, with positive relations between all parties.
The army has also denied what they called fake news about mapping out artillery positions in the area.
