On December 2nd, 2024, Mr. Yuthasak Poomsurakul, the CEO of CP All Public Company Limited, announced a partnership between 7-Eleven, the Tourist Police Bureau, and the British Embassy to enhance road safety awareness among international tourists in Thailand.
The initiative aims to address common risks faced by tourists unfamiliar with local traffic laws and driving conditions, such as not wearing helmets or driving under the influence.
7-Eleven outlets will act as key information hubs, providing practical advice on safe driving, including following traffic laws, using helmets, and securing accident insurance. The campaign will roll out in 155 branches across major tourist areas in 18 provinces, with safety messages displayed on posters and payment screens (POS).
This extends 7-Eleven’s prior efforts as a tourist assistance point in high-traffic destinations.
Tourist Police Chief Pol. Lt. Gen. Saksira Phuak-am noted that road accidents are a major concern during peak travel seasons, often caused by a lack of driving expertise and unfamiliarity with local road rules.
The Tourist Police have stepped up efforts to monitor vehicle rental businesses and conduct random checks on public transport drivers to ensure tourist safety.
British Consul Joanne Finnamore-Crorkin highlighted that road safety for UK visitors remains a top priority. With over 870,000 British tourists visiting Thailand in 2023, the initiative is expected to reduce accidents, enhance confidence in travel safety, and support the recovery of Thai tourism.
This collaboration reflects a shared commitment by Thai authorities, the private sector, and the British Embassy to improve safety measures and foster confidence in Thailand as a leading tourist destination.
