On December 2nd, 2024, Pol. Lt. Gen. Samran Nuanma, the Assistant Commissioner-General of Police, announced two successful drug busts involving over 7.8 million methamphetamine pills and 212 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine.
The operations targeted a significant trafficking network operating in central and Bangkok metropolitan areas.
In the first case, based on intelligence, police trailed a pickup truck leaving a repair shop in Nonthaburi’s Bang Bua Thong district. The vehicle, escorted by a sedan acting as a lead car, headed to a remote alley in Pathum Thani to collect drugs before returning to the repair shop.
Upon inspection, officers arrested three suspects, publicly identified only as Anukoon, 38, the truck driver; Thatchai, 33, the sedan driver; and Prachuap, 44, a passenger. A search revealed 7.8 million methamphetamine pills concealed inside the truck. Investigations revealed prior drug-related convictions for Anukoon and Prachuap.
In the second operation, a November 30th raid targeted a suspect in Bangkok’s Khlong Sam Wa district. Acting on a tip-off, police observed the man, publicly identified only as Natthawut, 26, leaving his house and found 10 grams of ketamine in his possession.
A subsequent search of his home uncovered crystal methamphetamine packaged in tea bags and additional ketamine on the ground floor. Natthawut reportedly confessed to being part of a trafficking network, responsible for distributing drugs in Bangkok and nearby areas under orders from a key figure known as “Ko.”
Pol. Lt. Gen. Samran emphasized that investigations are ongoing to dismantle the network. Authorities are expanding their search operations and encourage the public to report suspicious activities to assist in further crackdowns.
