Kanchanaburi Highway Police Bust Truck Carrying 18 Illegal Migrants

Kanchanaburi —

On December 5th, 2024, Sai Yok Highway Police in Kanchanaburi received intelligence about stolen vehicles being smuggled across the border and illegal migrant transportation in the area.

Around 8:00 AM, Kanchanaburi officers patrolling a rural highway in Sai Yok spotted a suspicious pickup truck carrying an unusually heavy load covered with a black net.

When signaled to stop, the driver allegedly accelerated and attempted to flee. A high-speed chase ensued for about 2 kilometers before the vehicle entered a dead-end street, allowing officers to arrest the Thai driver, publicly identified only as 29-year-old Mr. Chinkorn.

Inside the truck, authorities found 18 illegal migrants — 11 crammed into the cabin and 7 hidden in the truck bed under luggage and a black net. The migrants, who had crossed into Thailand through natural border paths in Sangkhla Buri, were reportedly en route to jobs in Samut Sakhon and Malaysia.

The driver reportedly admitted to transporting the migrants from Sangkhla Buri early that morning to hand them off in Kanchanaburi City. The Thai suspect was charged with assisting illegal entry, while the migrants face charges for entering Thailand without authorization.
