Five Workers Found Dead in Fermented Fish Factory Pit in Phetchabun

Phetchabun —

On December 9th, 2024, Phetchabun local media reported that five male workers were found dead in a pit at a fermented fish factory in Lom Sak District. The tragedy unfolded as they were reportedly cleaning the pit, only for an unforeseen accident to claim their lives.

According to Phetchabun local media, rescue teams arrived at the site around 6:00 PM after being alerted by locals. Initial measures included ventilating the pit with fans to dissipate toxic gas and increase oxygen levels to retrieve the bodies.

By 7:30 PM, police confirmed the deaths and noted that the incident likely began when the first worker lost consciousness, prompting others to attempt a rescue, resulting in all five succumbing to the hazardous environment.

According to the police, the fermented fish factory owner (whose name was not revealed by the media), was unable to reach the workers by phone in the afternoon, visited the site and discovered the tragedy.

Initially, the victims’ bodies have been sent for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
