Family Feud Turns Deadly: Shooter Targets Relatives and Bystanders in Bueng Kan

Bueng Kan —

At 11:00 AM on December 19th, 2024, Bueng Kan police were alerted to a shooting in Phon Charoen District, where a gunman killed two people and injured three others before taking his own life. Over 100 officers responded, evacuating victims and surrounding the suspect’s home.

By 1:22 PM, the shooter, publicly identified only as 35-year-old Thanapol, was found dead behind his house with a gunshot wound to his temple and a .38 revolver beside him.

Nearby, officers discovered the bodies of Nuntida, 41, shot dead in the street, and Chamnian, 50, killed on his motorcycle just meters away.

Three others were injured, with two transferred to Bueng Kan Hospital and one critically wounded in ICU at Phon Charoen Hospital. One of them was a rescuer on the incident scene.

Police stated that the gunman had a long-standing feud with relatives, stemming from a 2010 incident where he killed a family member and served four years in prison. After his release in 2020, he reportedly harbored resentment and vowed further revenge.

The violence began with the shooting of his uncle, Prakob, before Thanapol targeted bystanders, including those who attempted to help the victims. Investigators noted no history of mental illness or drug use but cited anger issues as the likely motive behind the tragic events.
