At 4:15 PM on December 23rd, 2024, a drunk driver caused a devastating accident in front of Ban Don Kwang School, Nakhon Ratchasima. The incident claimed a life and left many injured, including traffic police, parents, and students while crossing the street.
CCTV footage from the school captured the shocking event, which also damaged over 10 vehicles. The driver, publicly identified only as 55-year-old Mr. Thanet (last name withheld), suffered minor injuries and was reportedly heavily intoxicated.
He crashed his car into the school fence, leaving it severely damaged.
Among the victims were four parents, four students, and a vendor. Three students were critically injured. Tragically, the traffic police on duty, Pol. Sub-Lit. Wimon Tansupho, 53, was struck and later died despite resuscitation efforts.
Initially, police found the driver’s blood alcohol level at 194 mg%, well above the legal limit of 50 mg%. He was taken into custody for medical attention and legal proceedings.
