Thailand Launches Road Safety Campaign for New Year Festivities

National —

On December 25th, 2024, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul inaugurated the 2025 New Year Road Safety Command Center, emphasizing the theme “Safe Driving, Accident-Free Thailand.”

The campaign aims to integrate measures for preventing and reducing road accidents during the high-travel holiday season.

Highlighting government efforts, Minister Anutin stressed the importance of road safety as millions return to their hometowns or travel for celebrations, increasing accident risks. The campaign will run from December 27th to January 5th, with intensified control measures and collaboration across government and local agencies.

Five key strategies are in place, including enhanced traffic law enforcement, road infrastructure improvements, vehicle safety checks, driver education, and rapid emergency response.

A focus is on curbing risky behaviors like speeding, drunk driving, and riding motorcycles without helmets—common causes of road accidents during the festive period.

The government also urged compliance from businesses, particularly entertainment venues, to strictly regulate alcohol sales. Daily updates on road safety progress will keep the public informed and emphasize shared responsibility in preventing road accidents.
