Bangkok Police Arrest Bangladeshi Tourist for Drugs and Visa Overstay

Bangkok —

On December 26th, 2024, Bangkok immigration officers acted on a tip-off from a Bangladeshi man’s relatives, concerned after losing contact with him for over six months.

The officers traced the 30-year-old tourist (whose name was withheld by the police), who had entered Thailand on a visa that had expired in May 2024, to a hotel in Bang Na.

Upon inspection, they reportedly found him in possession of a glass jar resembling drug paraphernalia. A search of the room uncovered nearly 2 grams of methamphetamine hidden in a snack box.

The Bangladeshi national reportedly admitted to possessing the drugs, explaining that his admiration for Thailand’s free-spirited lifestyle led to experimentation on drugs. Authorities plan to investigate the suppliers further.

The suspect faces charges of illegal drug possession and overstaying his visa. He is now in custody at Bang Na police station for legal proceedings.
