Health Minister Activates Emergency Teams for New Year Travel Safety

PRESS RELEASE:

A meeting has been held at the National Institute for Emergency Medicine (NIEM) to prepare emergency medical services for the extended “Ten Dangerous Days” during the 2024-2025 New Year travel period. The focus is on reducing fatalities and disabilities from accidents through coordinated first aid, transportation, and hospital care.

Somsak Thepsuthin, Minister of Public Health, said that the “Ten Dangerous Days” campaign runs from December 27th to January 5th, with emergency response plans activated nationwide. NIEM is working with the Ministry of Public Health and other organizations under the Road Safety Master Plan to ensure safety across land, water, and air travel. Teams will monitor high-risk zones and coordinate with operations centers for quick responses to emergencies.

Efforts include collaboration with the Department of Highways and expressway authorities to address accident-prone areas. Critical routes such as Motorway M6 from Pak Chong to Nakhon Ratchasima and Motorway M81 from Bang Yai to Kanchanaburi have been prioritized, with checkpoints established along key segments to deploy emergency teams strategically.

Air medical services have been strengthened with 25 specialized units, focusing on accident-prone routes. Pak Chong Nana Hospital will play a key role in supporting emergencies on Motorway M6. Collaboration with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment ensures additional support in nearby areas.

NIEM has aligned operations across all health regions, with the Narenthorn Emergency Medical Service Center increasing staff to manage the holiday surge. The ministry continues to focus on swift and comprehensive care under the national policy that provides critical medical treatment at any medical facility for emergency cases, aiming to protect public safety during this critical travel period.
