Phetchabun Police Halt Smuggling of 26 Myanmar Migrants

Phetchabun —

On December 26th, 2024, Phetchabun highway police successfully intercepted two vehicles transporting 26 undocumented Myanmar migrants through Khao Kho District.

Acting on intelligence about a human smuggling route from Tak to Saraburi, officers monitored Highway 12 and identified two suspicious vehicles. When the drivers attempted to flee, police gave chase and managed to stop both vehicles.

A search revealed 10 migrants crammed into a pickup truck and 16 more squeezed into a Fortuner SUV, including both men and women.

The Thai drivers (whose names were withheld by the police), aged 42 and 31, reportedly confessed to being hired to transport the migrants for 1,000 baht per person. They admitted to smuggling the migrants from the Thai-Myanmar border in Tak and were en route to Saraburi when apprehended.

Initially, authorities transferred the suspects and migrants to Khao Kho police station for further investigation and legal proceedings.
