Thai Government Pledges Aid for Victims of Bangkok Hotel Fire

Bangkok —

On December 30th, 2024, Ms. Natreeya Taweewong, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, reported on the tragic hotel fire that occurred on December 29th at The Ember Hotel near Khao San Road, Bangkok. The blaze resulted in three fatalities and seven injuries.

The deceased, whose identities and nationalities remain unknown as of press time, included five foreign tourists and two Thai nationals among the injured.

Authorities are providing full support, including financial compensation: 1 million baht for families of the deceased and 500,000 baht for the injured, pending identity verification and contact with relatives.

Tourist Assistance Centers (TAC) will also actively support hospital victims and ensure communication with families. The Thai government is also coordinating with Bangkok authorities to provide alternative accommodations for more than 40 rooms and additional support for affected tourists.

Investigations into the fire’s cause are ongoing as officials work to prevent similar incidents during 2025.
