Thailand Reports Total of 215 Deaths in Five Days of Ten Dangerous Days New Year Road Campaign

Thailand has announced a total of 215 deaths with 1,354 injuries from 1,398 road accidents in five days from December 27th to December 31st of the Ten Dangerous Days New Year Road Campaign from December 27th, 2024 to January 5th, 2025.

The Thai Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) reported on January 1st, 2025. The highest total number of fatalities were in Bangkok and Nonthaburi with ten deaths. The highest total number of road accidents was Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya with 44 times and the highest number of injuries was Phuket with 43 injuries.

The DDPM reported details on the fifth day (December 31st) of the road campaign. There were 36 deaths and 245 injuries in 262 road accidents.

Accidents were mostly caused by excessive speeding (42%). Most accidents involved motorbikes (89%). Forty percent of road accidents occurred most on national highways. Most accidents occurred between 00:01 A.M. to 1:00A.M., 5:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M to 7:00 P.M.. (8%).
