The two Thai victims were identified as a 45-year-old woman and a 22-year-old woman and we reported more on them here. The crash occurred at approximately 9:03 a.m. when the Boeing 737-800 was forced into an emergency belly landing due to a critical landing gear failure. The plane collided with a wall at the edge of the runway, causing the fuselage to rupture and ignite.
The father of the 45-year-old victim, speaking from Thailand, expressed his devastation upon learning of his daughter’s passing. “I hope to see my daughter’s face one last time when her body returns home,” he said tearfully.
The 22-year-old victim, a university student from Bangkok, had been traveling to South Korea to reunite with her mother, who lives there after marrying a Korean national. Her mother was informed of the tragedy shortly after the crash.
Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra extended heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families and instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide immediate support.
Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul of South Korea also expressed his sorrow via social media, saying, “The tragic plane crash at Muan International Airport has left us in profound sadness.
