On January 2nd, 2025, Mae On Police in Chiang Mai responded to a tragic accident involving a dirt bike ridden by an American tourist that struck a middle-aged woman crossing the road in Mae On District.
The victim, publicly identified as Ms. Kiea Saewang, 58, was found unconscious on the road. Rescuers performed CPR and rushed her to Mae On Hospital’s emergency room. Despite their efforts, she was later pronounced dead.
The dirt bike rider, Mr. Philip Morrow, 38, a U.S. citizen, tearfully apologized to the victim’s family at the scene, according to the police.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was crossing the road to eat at a restaurant when she was struck. The suspect was taken to the local police station for further questioning and legal proceedings.
