Bangkok —

At 8:30 PM on January 3rd, 2024, investigators from Sai Mai police station responded to a report of a police officer fatally shot on Chalerm Phong Road, Sai Mai District, Bangkok.

The incident occurred outside a barbershop, where Pol. Sub-Lit. Banrang Kesaporn, the Deputy Inspector of Sai Mai Police Station, was found critically injured with multiple gunshot wounds. He was initially provided first aid and rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

Investigations revealed that Pol. Sub-Lit. Banrang, off duty and partially dressed in uniform, was drinking at the scene when a foreign man (whose name was withheld by the police) sought his help during an altercation with Anop (last name withheld), a 41-year-old motorcycle mechanic.

Pol. Sub-Lit. Banrang reportedly intervened, identifying himself as a police officer, which angered Anop, with whom he had prior conflicts, according to the police.

According to the police, Anop reportedly retrieved a 9mm handgun from his shop and shot the victim repeatedly, before fleeing the scene. He was later apprehended and is being held for questioning and legal action.
