Thailand Braces for Colder Weather From January 4th-7th

National —

On January 3rd, 2025, the Thai Meteorological Department issued a weather forecast for January 4th to 9th.

From January 4th to 7th, a moderate high-pressure system from China is expected to bring colder temperatures and strong winds to upper Thailand, the northern South, and the South China Sea.

Northern and northeastern regions will see temperatures drop by 2–5°C, while central Thailand, Bangkok, its vicinity, the eastern region, and the upper South will experience a decrease of 1–3°C.

In the South, intensified northeast monsoon winds will bring heavier rainfall, with isolated heavy showers. The Gulf of Thailand will see waves up to 2 meters high, exceeding 2 meters in stormy areas, while the Andaman Sea will have 1–2 meter waves.

On January 8th and 9th, cool mornings will persist in northern and northeastern Thailand. Central Thailand, Bangkok, and the upper South will remain cool with light morning fog. The southern region will see reduced rain, mostly in the far south. Waves in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea will remain moderate.

The public is advised to prepare for colder weather in the north and heavy rainfall in the lower South, which may lead to flash floods and landslides. Mariners are urged to exercise caution, particularly in stormy areas.
