Iranian Duo Arrested in Bangkok for Allegedly Assaulting and Robbing Vietnamese Tourist

Bangkok —

On January 7th, 2025, police from Plubplachai 2 station arrested two Iranian nationals for allegedly robbing a Vietnamese tourist in front of the Royal Hotel on Yaowarat Road, Bangkok, on January 6th around 10:36 PM.

The suspects, publicly identified as Mr. Amer Hossein Niazifar, 34, and Ms. Safieh Latif Davoud, 35, allegedly approached the victim, who had recently withdrawn 150,000 baht. 

Pretending to strike up a conversation, they reportedly demanded to see the cash. A third suspect, still at large, allegedly grabbed 50,000 baht from the victim before the group assaulted him, choking and restraining him. The victim managed to recover 100,000 baht before the assailants fled, according to the police.

Police acted swiftly, reviewing CCTV footage and arresting two suspects nearby. The suspects denied the allegations but were positively identified by the victim. Both face charges of robbery and overstaying their visas. Authorities are continuing the search for the third suspect.
