Nakhon Ratchasima —
On January 11th, 2025, Thai officials reported the containment of a wildfire at Khao Loi within the Khao Siad Ai, Khao Nok Yoong, and Khao Ang Hin National Reserved Forests in Pak Chong District, Nakhon Ratchasima.
The fire began on January 3rd behind Udomsuk Temple, destroying 200 rai. Despite containment efforts, new blazes erupted on January 5th, 7th, and 10th, spreading across steep, rocky terrain and consuming over 1,500 rai.
Challenges included strong winds, dense fuel, and inaccessible areas, necessitating helicopter water drops on January 11th to slow the fire’s spread, according to the officials.
Local authorities coordinated efforts from multiple agencies, including Khao Yai National Park and local disaster relief teams, to protect nearby communities.
The fire was fully extinguished by January 11th, but inspections are ongoing. Officials discovered spent .22 caliber bullet casings and animal traps, suggesting the fire may have been intentionally set for wildlife hunting.
