At 9:00 AM local time in Davos on January 23rd, 2025, Thai PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra witnessed the signing of the Thailand-EFTA Free Trade Agreement (FTA) at the House of Switzerland.
The FTA, involving Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein, marks the first major trade pact achieved under the current Thai government, strengthening economic ties and fostering collaboration in advanced technology, human capital development, SME promotion, and sustainability.
Later, PM Paetongtarn met with Matt Garman, CEO of Amazon Web Services (AWS), to discuss AWS’s contributions to Thailand’s digital transformation and technology skill development.
She lauded AWS’s investment in establishing the AWS Asia Pacific (Thailand) Region data center and highlighted Thailand’s key policies leveraging digital technology and AI, such as e-Government initiatives, the digital wallet program, and green energy promotion, positioning Thailand as an attractive investment hub.
Garman reportedly expressed gratitude for the Thai government’s support and reaffirmed AWS’s commitment to upskilling Thailand’s workforce through partnerships with leading universities.
He noted that Thailand’s conducive investment environment could drive further investment in cloud, digital, and AI sectors from global enterprises.
