South Korean Tourist Hit at Same Pedestrian Crossing Where Thai Doctor Was Fatally Struck

Bangkok —

A South Korean tourist was hit by a motorcycle while crossing a zebra crossing in Bangkok, the same spot where a female doctor was fatally struck three years ago.

The incident, which recently came into the spotlight today, January 27th, took place last week at a pedestrian crossing on Phaya Thai Road in front of the Bhumirajanagarindra Kidney Institute Hospital.

According to reports, the victim, a 68-year-old unidentified South Korean tourist was hit by a motorbike while walking at the crossing and suffered a head injury. He was taken to Phyathai 1 Hospital.

The unidentified motorcyclist sustained minor injuries. A breathalyzer test showed that he had a blood alcohol level of 0, and legal proceedings are underway.

This incident occurred at the same site of the tragic accident involving Dr Waralak Supawat-Jariyakul, an ophthalmologist from Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Medicine. She was fatally struck on January 21st, 2022, by a crowd control officer from the Metropolitan Police Bureau, while crossing the road at the same pedestrian crossing. A memorial was recently held to mark the third anniversary of her passing.
