Thai Police Officer Killed While Assisting Stranded Rider, Donates Organs to Save Five Lives

On January 27th, 2025, Pol. Sgt. Charoenphon Niamniyom, 35, of the Surat Thani City Police, was fatally struck by a pickup truck while assisting a delivery rider with a broken chain on a bypass road. He later succumbed to his injuries at Surat Thani Hospital.

Before his passing, Pol. Sgt. Charoenphon had registered as an organ donor with the Thai Red Cross. Surgeons successfully transplanted his heart valve, liver, kidneys, and corneas to five patients. His family, fellow officers, and medical staff held a ceremony to honor his sacrifice.

Pol. Sgt. Charoenphon, a dedicated officer with over a decade of service, was known for his kindness and strong sense of duty. His wife, Atchariya, 32, described him as a cheerful and caring husband and a loving father to their one-year-old daughter.

His funeral will be held at Wat Dhammabucha in Surat Thani on January 30th. Authorities are expediting financial support for his wife and young daughter.
