Thai Authorities Raid Massive Illegal Bitcoin Mining Sites in Samut Sakhon

Samut Sakhon —

On January 31st, 2025, Thai authorities raided three warehouses in Samut Sakhon, uncovering an illegal Bitcoin mining operation that had siphoned off electricity for three years, causing over 500 million baht in losses.

The operation, led by the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), followed complaints from the Provincial Electricity Authority about abnormal power usage.

Investigators found 1,788 crypto-mining machines spread across three locations—396 in Nadi subdistrict, 462 in Baan Koh subdistrict, and 930 in Tha Sai subdistrict. However, no suspect was detained during the raid operation.

Officials described the seizure as the largest of its kind and warned that such illicit mining threatens national energy stability.

The DSI vowed to prosecute those involved and expand its investigation, urging the public to report suspicious activities. Any government officials found complicit will also face legal action.
