169 Illegal Migrants Found Crammed in Truck in Kanchanaburi

Kanchanaburi —

On January 31st, 2025, police in Thong Pha Phum, Kanchanaburi, stopped a suspicious 22-wheel trailer truck at a checkpoint, suspecting it was transporting illegal migrants.

Upon further inspection, officers discovered 169 Myanmar nationals—102 men and 67 women—crammed inside both the truck’s main cabin and trailer section.

The driver, publicly identified only as 30-year-old Chinnakorn, reportedly admitted to smuggling the migrants for a payment of 10,000 baht from an unidentified financier.

He had picked them up in Sangkhla Buri District and was set to drop them off at factories and residences in Bangkok, Samut Sakhon, and Pathum Thani. Some were also intended to be transported further into Malaysia, according to the police.

Authorities detained Chinnakorn and all 169 migrants for legal proceedings and further investigation into the smuggling network.

Recently, security forces in Thong Pha Phum managed to detain 118 individuals along with five vehicles as we reported here.
