NATIONAL, February 6th, 2025 – Pol. Col. Tawee Sodsong, Minister of Justice, presided over the destruction of more than 27 tons of seized narcotics at Bang Pu Industrial Estate, Samut Prakan.
The event, organized by the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), aimed to reinforce transparency, with Thai national athletes, ASEAN youth representatives from nine countries, and officials invited to witness the process.
The incineration marked the seventh operation by the ONCB and the second under Thai PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s administration, highlighting the government’s commitment to eradicating drugs. Pol. Col. Tawee emphasized that the initiative aligns with the national agenda, calling for collaboration from all sectors.
The destroyed drugs included 145 million methamphetamine pills, 7.56 tons of crystal meth, 504.82 kg of heroin, 1.47 tons of ketamine, and other illicit substances, totaling over 27.5 tons from 151 cases.
Seized across the country between September and November 2024, all narcotics were verified by forensic institutes before destruction.
Since 2023, Thailand has incinerated over 133.12 tons of illegal drugs, including 966 million meth pills. After the latest operation, officials collected ash samples to confirm complete destruction and prevent any re-entry into circulation.
