CHINA, February 6th, 2025 –Thai PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing during her official visit, marking 50 years of diplomatic relations between Thailand and China.
She highlighted China’s role as Thailand’s top trade and investment partner, with both nations pledging deeper economic, infrastructure, and security cooperation.
President Xi reaffirmed China’s support for Thailand in high-speed rail expansion, digital economy growth, and EEC investments. He welcomed Thailand’s planned Entertainment Complex and Land Bridge projects as new economic opportunities. Thailand, in turn, committed to streamlining customs processes to ease agricultural exports to China.
Security collaboration was a key focus. President Xi praised Thailand’s efforts in cracking down on transnational crime, including online scams, human trafficking, and drug smuggling. He commended measures like cutting electricity and internet access to criminal networks, which have significantly weakened illegal operations.
Both leaders discussed Thailand’s new role as a BRICS partner, emphasizing its importance in global economic cooperation. They also committed to strengthening cultural exchanges, including the enshrinement of the Buddha’s Tooth Relic in Thailand, panda diplomacy, and educational programs.
PM Paetongtarn will continue her visit in Harbin, where she will meet with Chinese officials and attend events related to the upcoming Winter Asian Games.
