Five Thai Hostages Freed by Hamas Return to Thailand

Thailand, February 9th, 2025 – Five Thai nationals freed after being held hostage by Hamas arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport. They were welcomed with emotional embraces from family members, as well as Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa and Israeli Ambassador Orna Sagiv.

Maris emphasized the government’s unwavering efforts to assist Thai workers abroad, noting that their release was a testament to persistent diplomatic work.

While the five returnees are physically healthy, concerns remain about their mental well-being after 15 months in captivity. One Thai hostage is still unaccounted for, and authorities continue to negotiate for their release.

Meanwhile, efforts are underway to repatriate the bodies of two Thai workers confirmed dead. Since the Israel-Hamas conflict began on October 7th, 2023, 46 Thai workers have been killed, 23 injured, and 28 taken hostage.
