The following is our weekly feature in which we highlight the top local stories in our area of Phuket from the past week. The number of stories differs from week to week.
These are chosen and curated by our editorial team and are designed for our readers to get a quick “catch-up” of important stories they may have missed. We publish many stories daily and it is easy to lose track of important events or changes in our area. We do national recaps in a separate article, this is only the top local stories in Phuket.
They are in no particular order of importance but roughly in order of publishing. These are from Monday, Monday February 3rd to Sunday February 9th, 2024.
1. An intoxicated French motorbike rider crashed into a Patong Traffic Police officer.

He had also sustained various injuries and was given an alcohol breath test. The test showed .58 milligrams percent of alcohol which was over the legal alcohol limit of .50.
2. A Tunisian motorbike rider was arrested after he broke through a police checkpoint in Karon.

He was unable to present a legal driving license to police. He was taken to the Karon Police Station for further legal actions.
3. Two Russians, a Belarusian, and a Kazakhstani national were arrested at an illegal nursery in Cherng Talay.
Officers raided ‘THAILIVING KIDS’ nursery on the Pasak Road with a search warrant from the Phuket Court following an ongoing investigation.
4. Officials conducted an investigation after a video clip of a male foreigner appearing to perform a massage job in Patong went viral on social media.

The owner of the shop explained to the police that the man in the video is her Dutch husband. Officials verified that he holds a legal retirement visa and has sufficient funds to support himself without working.
5. Fire engulfed a resort in Karon last evening alarming foreign residents.
Residents were evacuated to a safe area outside the resort. No injuries were reported.
6. The Director of Environmental and Pollution Control Office 15, reported on the response to an apparent wastewater discharge into the sea at Kamala Beach.
