Thai Tourist Police Arrest 2,928 People in Nationwide Crackdown on Transnational Crime

Thailand, February 10th, 2025 – Thai tourist police launched a nationwide crackdown targeting transnational crime, illegal activities by foreigners, and offenses affecting the tourism industry. 

The operation, conducted from February 3rd to 8th, involved Thai and foreign volunteers, as well as public and private sector partners, to boost tourist confidence.

Authorities arrested 2,746 individuals, with a total of 2,928 suspects charged. The five most significant offense categories were:

  1. Transnational crime & illegal activities by foreigners – 431 cases, 441 suspects.
  2. Illegal tour operations & low-quality tours – 323 cases, 323 suspects.
  3. Tourist exploitation by transport services – 174 cases, 174 suspects.
  4. Fraudulent sales & overpriced goods/services – 412 cases, 412 suspects.
  5. Tourism-related crimes & other offenses – 724 cases, 891 suspects.

Thai tourist police remain committed to combating crimes that threaten the tourism industry and ensuring safety and confidence for visitors through strict enforcement measures.
