Bangkok, February 14th, 2025 – Police from Bang Phong Phang station raided an illegal gambling den run by a Chinese national in Yan Nawa district, arresting 13 people, including 12 foreign nationals and one Thai operator.
The raid, prompted by a tip-off, took place on the third floor of a building disguised as a Chinese restaurant. The venue, previously shut down in 2023 due to a drug-related death, was reportedly reopened under new management.
Police seized poker chips worth 5 million baht, cash in multiple currencies including Thai baht, Chinese yuan, Hong Kong dollars, and euros, along with poker tables and playing cards.
Among those arrested were eight Chinese nationals, two Singaporeans, one Filipino, and one Indian. Over 10 other gamblers successfully escaped. One Singaporean was found to have overstayed their visa, while the Thai operator admitted to working for a Chinese employer for over a year.
Police have charged all suspects with illegal gambling and the Thai operator with organizing illegal gambling. Authorities are investigating whether the building owner was involved.
