Thailand, February 16th, 2025 – Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiwphan, the head of the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau, addressed concerns about Myanmar human trafficking victims using Thailand as a transit point.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong denied the notion that Thailand is neglecting the issue, noting that most of the 260 recently rescued migrants, mainly from Africa, willingly traveled for work across the border, with only one identified as a trafficking victim.
Thailand’s advanced infrastructure and internet connectivity attract online crime syndicates, including call center scams operating around its borders, Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong added.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong further stressed that Thai authorities assist trafficked victims and aim to prevent voluntary workers from being exploited.
He also confirmed an ongoing probe into reports that Chinese investors leased land in Nakhon Ratchasima and Phuket to establish call center scam bases, vowing no permanent criminal settlements in Thailand and a continued crackdown on online crime.
