Thai Good Samaritans Help Turkish Tourist After Six Hours of Hitchhiking from Pathum Thani to Chiang Mai

Pathumthani, February 21st, 2025 – A Turkish tourist stood hitchhiking for over six hours on Phahonyothin Road, opposite Future Park Rangsit, hoping to travel to Chiang Mai. Concerned locals eventually stepped in to assist.

Ronnarong Phetcharoen, 46, who first noticed the traveler, said the tourist had been standing in the heat from 10 AM to 2 PM but no cars stopped. Suspecting he needed help, Ronnarong approached him with water.

The tourist, later publicly identified only as Deniz from Turkey, explained he was hitchhiking but had no luck. Seeing his struggle, Kanokpol Kaewwichit, 34, printed a sign in Thai stating his destination, hoping it would increase his chances.

After a local news page shared the story, residents coordinated to help. They bought Deniz a bus ticket to Chiang Mai, treated him to Thai food, and showed him around a local landmark.

The admin of the news page covered all travel expenses, stating that no one should judge travelers based on their financial status.

Deniz, a world traveler and YouTuber, later expressed his gratitude online, thanking Thais for their generosity and promising to share their kindness with the world through his YouTube channel. He has visited 25 countries and aims to explore Thailand’s rich culture beyond typical tourist experiences.

TPN Media notes, however, that not every commenter was positive online. Some, especially foreigners and expats, criticized the Turkish tourist for evidently trying to travel with limited to no expenses.
