National – Vietnam and Thailand have reaffirmed their commitment to economic and strategic cooperation during an official visit by Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa to Vietnam from February 24-25, 2025.
Maris met with his Vietnamese counterpart, Bui Thanh Son, to discuss trade, investment, and tourism collaboration, as well as preparations for the 50th anniversary of Thai-Vietnamese relations in 2026.
Maris emphasized the importance of economic cooperation in an era of intense geopolitical competition, advocating for integrated supply chains that leverage each country’s strengths. The discussions also laid the groundwork for Thai PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s upcoming visit to Vietnam later this year.
Vietnam pledged support for Thailand’s crackdown on scam call centers and transnational crime while aligning with Thailand’s tourism strategy to enhance regional connectivity under the “Six Countries, One Destination” initiative.
Both nations also committed to tackling PM2.5 pollution and strengthening Mekong River management.
Vietnam further praised Thailand’s recent free trade agreement with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA).
Additionally, Maris engaged with Thai business leaders in Vietnam, addressing investment opportunities and challenges to foster a more business-friendly environment. The visit underscored Thailand’s proactive economic diplomacy and deepening bilateral ties.
