Bangkok, February 27th, 2025 – Bangkok’s newest viral landmark, an Optimus Prime statue in Talat Noi, has become an unexpected shrine for worshippers among Thais and foreigners after a local café credited it for their alleged sales boost.
Previously, the local café had pledged to offer 99 drinks to Optimus Prime if sales targets were met, and after three months of success, they fulfilled their vow—sparking a trend of similar offerings, including red soda, and traditional dancers.
On February 27th, Bangkok officials visited the site to warn vendors and the public against placing offerings near the statue, citing safety concerns due to heavy traffic at the location.
Authorities requested cooperation in stopping the practice and ensuring public safety while also checking businesses for proper licensing. Vendors reportedly complied with the requests, according to Thai national media.
The shrine has gone viral on social media as well, with many Thais stating they believed a friendly spirit inhabited the statue of Optimus Prime now. Many foreign posters, however, expressed their skepticism.
