Cambodia, February 28th, 2025 — Cambodia’s National Police issued an urgent statement on a major cybercrime crackdown in Poipet, arresting 230 foreign nationals, including 119 Thais, as well as Lao and Myanmar citizens.
Following interrogation, the 119 Thai suspects admitted to illegally entering Cambodia to work in online scams, lured by high earnings, according to Khmer Times.
Authorities confirmed there was no forced labor or physical abuse. None of the Thais sought assistance from Thai or Cambodian officials. As a result, Cambodia deported all 119 Thais—61 men and 58 women—back to Thailand, reported Khmer Times.

According to Khmer Times, the operation was the result of a three-month investigation, revealing that a Chinese-led call center gang was behind the scheme.
This follows ongoing crackdowns on illegal scam centers in Myanmar as well, as we have reported extensively here.
In February, over two hundred people allegedly forced to work in scam centers in Cambodia were rescued.
