Thailand Blocks Over 80,000 Illegal Online Platforms in Five Months

Thailand, March 5th, 2025 — The Thai government has intensified its crackdown on cybercrime, with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DES) blocking 80,669 illegal social media pages, websites, and URLs over the past five months (October 2024–February 2025).

This represents a 1.5-fold increase compared to the same period last year when 53,466 platforms were shut down.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Sasikarn Watthanachan stated that authorities have focused on disrupting key channels used by criminal networks. The blocked sites included 31,832 linked to online gambling (up 1.3 times), 21,939 spreading misinformation or online fraud (a slight decrease), and 26,898 involving other Thai law violations (up 6.5 times).

The significant rise in enforcement follows tighter collaboration between government agencies to monitor and shut down illegal online operations.

The government pledges to continue its efforts to safeguard citizens and enhance national security by eliminating cyber threats, remarked Sasikarn.
