Two Indian Nationals Arrested at Don Mueang Airport for Attempted Cannabis Smuggling

Bangkok, March 10th, 2025 — Thai authorities arrested two Indian nationals at Don Mueang Airport after finding over 22.4 kilograms of cannabis concealed in snack packages.

The suspects were stopped at the international departure terminal’s check-in counter at 7:30 AM while preparing to board a flight to India’s Prayagraj Airport. The suspects, publicly identified only as Mr. Kamarudheen and Mr. Shibin, both 34, were caught following a tip-off and a coordinated inspection by Don Mueang police and customs officers.

An X-ray of their two suitcases revealed 22 vacuum-sealed plastic bags of cannabis, each weighing about 1 kilogram, hidden inside branded snack wrappers. The suspects failed to present export permits for the cannabis, which is classified as a controlled herb under Thai law. Cannabis is decriminalized in Thailand since 2022 but not for export.

Both suspects face charges of attempting to export unapproved goods under the 2017 Customs Act. They and the seized cannabis have been handed over to Don Mueang police for further investigation.
