Chiang Mai Police Arrest Man in Ghostface Mask Attempting Gold Shop Robbery

Chiang Mai, March 18th, 2025 — Mae Ping police officers in Chiang Mai arrested a man in a ghostface mask, made popular from the Scream movie series, attempting to rob a gold shop inside a shopping mall in Mueang district.

The suspect, publicly identified only as 21-year-old Esara, was dressed in black, wearing a ghost mask, gloves, and carrying a knife and a white backpack.

Staff discovered the suspect inside the shop when they arrived to open for business. He had reportedly hidden in the mall’s restroom overnight, then broke into the shop after the mall closed.

However, he was unable to open the shop’s safe or escape after realizing the doors were locked. Mall security locked him inside until police arrived and took him into custody, according to the source.

During questioning, the suspect admitted he had previously worked at the mall and decided to attempt the robbery because he was out of money.
Police found all his equipment, including the knife, gloves, and mask, at the scene. He faces charges of attempted robbery and illegal possession of a weapon.
