Thailand, March 22nd, 2025 — The opposition People’s Party will lead a censure debate against Thai PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra on March 24th, citing alleged failures in national security, corruption, and economic management.
Rangsiman Rome, a party-list MP and deputy party leader, stated that the debate will reveal critical evidence of government mismanagement and wrongdoing.
He warned that after presenting this evidence, the opposition will launch a “salt-sprinkling operation” — a legal strategy aimed at holding the prime minister accountable and pursuing further legal action.
Rome highlighted that the government appears more anxious than in previous debates, reflected in attempts to block certain motions and the appointment of 20 MPs to protect the prime minister during the session.
He noted that this indicates internal divisions within the ruling coalition, including the Bhumjaithai Party, and a lack of confidence in defending the government’s record. The opposition aims to expose these weaknesses and force the prime minister to clarify her position on key issues.
Rome also mentioned that the opposition has prepared a team of key MPs, with Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut, the leader of the People’s Party and opposition leader in parliament, set to open the debate.
He expressed confidence that the evidence presented will be strong enough to challenge the government’s credibility and decision-making.
