Phuket Governor Confirms Phuket is Safe and Unaffected By Myanmar Earthquake, Tourists are Welcome

Phuket, March 30th, 2025 — Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat assured the public that the province remains structurally unaffected and faces no tsunami risk following the 8.2-magnitude earthquake in Mandalay, Myanmar, on March 28th.

Reports from the National Disaster Warning Center and the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation confirmed no tsunami warning for this event.
Phuket’s high-rise buildings, particularly those over 23 meters tall, undergo annual inspections, and no structural damage has been reported. While tremors were felt at the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization Hospital, no major impacts occurred.
Tourism remains steady, with 15,000-17,000 visitors arriving daily.

Authorities have informed travel agencies and international tourists that Phuket was not affected. The province maintains 19 tsunami warning points, with two currently under repair in Mai Khao. Additionally, plans are underway to develop a mobile alert system for residents. The Phuket Governor urged the public to rely on official updates and avoid spreading unverified information, emphasizing Phuket’s strong disaster preparedness measures.
