Thai Authorities Seize Over 2kg of Heroin Hidden in Protein Bars at Suvarnabhumi Airport, Destined for Australia

Thailand, April 2nd, 2025 — Thailand’s Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) seized 2,140 grams of heroin disguised as protein bars at Suvarnabhumi Airport. The drugs were packed into 84 bar-shaped pieces hidden inside protein bar wrappers and were destined for Australia.

According to ONCB Secretary-General Pol. Lt. Gen. Panurat Lakboon, the heroin was discovered in a single outbound parcel flagged for inspection. The package had originated from Bangkok and passed through a private courier before being handed off to an international shipping company.

Authorities are investigating those involved and have coordinated with the Australian Federal Police (AFP) to trace connections in Australia.

So far in fiscal year 2025 (October 2024–present), under the Airport Interdiction Task Force (AITF), Thai authorities have intercepted 11 drug smuggling cases bound for Australia, including 14.11 kg of crystal meth, 700 grams of heroin, and 93 kg of cocaine.

Smuggling methods have included hiding drugs inside chocolate snack packs, surfboard inflators, whiteboard frames, and even instant drink sachets and power tools.
