Thailand, April 9th, 2025 — The Thai Meteorological Department issued a warning for summer storms expected to impact parts of upper Thailand from April 12th–14th, right during the popular Thai New Year Festival, Songkran.
The storms are forecast to bring thunderstorms, strong winds, hail, and possible lightning due to a moderate high-pressure system from China spreading over the Northeast and the South China Sea. This will interact with hot to very hot weather and easterly winds bringing in moisture, creating unstable weather conditions.
Residents in upper Thailand are urged to stay cautious, avoid open areas, large trees, weak structures, and billboards during storms.
With the Songkran festival approaching, outdoor events should be planned carefully. Farmers are advised to secure fruit trees, protect crops and livestock, and take care of their health during changing weather conditions.
