Update: Malaysian Man Arrested for Armed Gold Heist in Hat Yai

Hat Yai, at 5:00 PM on April 9th, 2025 — Thailand’s Crime Suppression Division arrested a Malaysian man, Yee Boon Long, for an armed gold shop robbery in downtown Hat Yai, Songkhla Province. 

The suspect was arrested under a Songkhla Provincial Court warrant on charges of armed robbery, illegal possession of a firearm, and carrying a weapon in public without reasonable cause. 

The robbery took place the previous day at the renowned gold shop in Hat Yai, after which the suspect fled on a motorcycle. The suspect made off with over 148 baht-weight of gold jewelry worth more than 7 million baht.

Investigators tracked him to Bangkok, where he was planning to hide. Officers arrested him at the Southern Bus Terminal with 69 gold necklaces in his possession. During initial questioning, he confessed to the crime. He is currently being held for further interrogation at the Crime Suppression Division.
