Thai Prime Minister Marks Songkran Festival in Chiang Mai

CHIANG MAI, April 13, 2025 — Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra kicked off the “SF My Water World Songkran Festival 2025” at Maya Square, MAYA Lifestyle Shopping Center, in Chiang Mai yesterday, joining thousands of locals and international tourists in a lively celebration of Thailand’s iconic Songkran festival.

Amid a festive atmosphere, the Prime Minister expressed her delight in celebrating Songkran with the people of Chiang Mai. “I wish everyone joy and unforgettable memories during this holiday,” she said, encouraging all to make the most of the long weekend. “May this Songkran bring smiles, laughter, and cherished moments that last a lifetime.”

The PM officially opened the festival, a highlight of Chiang Mai’s Songkran celebrations, featuring live music, entertainment, and a thrilling water-play zone. The event aims to boost tourism while preserving Thailand’s rich cultural traditions, ensuring Songkran remains a vibrant showcase of unity and heritage.

Her father, former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, and her family also attended and they spent some time participating in the famous water fights as well.
